Utility price increases were approved and overdue bill payment will be sought following meetings on Thursday night of the Princeton and Spickard city councils.

Princeton
At Princeton, council members approved ordinances increasing the city’s sewer, water and trash pickup rates, effective Sept. 1. Sewer and water rates will increase by 5 percent while the trash pickup rates will go up by 4 percent.
Action was taken on several items related to the Calamity Jane Day events Sept. 16-18. Catering licenses were granted for Jeff Powers and Steve Mason. Four service contracts presented by the Princeton Chamber of Commerce were approved, granting payment for entertainment during CJ Day, including $100 each for the Mercer and Grundy R-5 bands to participate in the parade, $500 for the Carla Deemer & Blue Rose Band to perform and $150 for prizes to be awarded in the “singing bee.”
Dan Stratman, pastor of the Princeton United Methodist Church, visited with the council about a community clean-up day on Sept. 11 and offered the services of church members to clean up areas around the community prior to Calamity Jane Day. Mentioned particularly was the downtown square area.
A building permit to construct a deck was granted to Hubert and Yvonne Harrington of 412 Ballew. The council voted not to participate in the textile trailer recycling with the North Missouri Solid Waste Management District.
The next meeting of the council will be on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Spickard
The Spickard Board of Aldermen will be sending out letters to persons owing back payments on sewer services. If the bills are not paid, a lien will be placed on their properties.
The aldermen agreed to purchase a new computer and software for use at city hall and will be sending letters to remind business owners that licenses were to be purchased by Aug. 1. The aldermen agreed to pay expenses regarding employee training and will also be posting a job vacancy for the city superintendent’s job.
The next meeting of the board will be on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
