Janet Vanderpool, Dean of Allied Health Sciences at NCMC, initiated the development of this completion program four years ago to facilitate continuing education for NCMC’s associate degree (registered) nurses. NCMC allied health instructor Brooke McAtee said the program has proved to be extremely valuable for NCMC graduates who want to earn an advanced degree.
“When an individual pursues a bachelor’s degree in nursing, the focus is on leadership and management,” Mrs. McAtee said. “These upper level courses, taught by the staff at NWMSU, aid students with that transition. Bachelor’s degree nurses can be employed in a broader scope of nursing practice and pursue higher level positions in the health care field.”
NCMC offers an associate degree (registered) nurse program on their home campus in Trenton as well as at their outreach site on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University. Graduates of either program can enter the BSN completion program at NWMSU to earn their Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Associate degree nursing graduates of four other community colleges (Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City, Des Moines Area Community College, Iowa Western Community College, and Southwestern Iowa Community College) can also participate with NWMSU in the completion program.
