The board selected four parks, Moberly, Eastside, Gladys Grimes and city-owned land north of Trenton, to be included in the new master plan that will now be developed by Olsson and Associates. Numerous ideas were mentioned as possibilities for inclusion, such as extension of the current walking trail or development of new trails; curbing and guttering the road through Moberly Park as well as adding lighting; horseshoe pits in a shadier area than the one in which the current pits are located; an enclosed shelter house at Moberly Park; additional parking, a additional shelter house, a portable backstop and a disc golf course at Gladys Grimes Park; a ballfield/soccer complex at the north location and ATV trails and track. Board members also discussed items that might be done to improve VanMeter Park, such as paving the parking lot, but did not feel those items needed to be included in the plan. Olsson and Associates will now take this information and the findings of a recent community survey and begin developing the plan.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Aug. 3 but may moved due to several members being unable to attend.
