Ernest J. Melson, a 90-year-old resident of Trenton, died at 7:30 this morning (Friday, July 8, 2011) at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011 at Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Princeton.
A visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday at the mortuary.
Mr. Melson was born on May 30, 1921 in Decatur, IA, the son of Ernest and Roberta Crawley Melson. On April 19, 1942 he was married to Marceline Dykes.
After their marriage he served in the United States Army during WWII, reaching the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of the 40th division, serving at the island of Mindanao and then at the 38th Parallel in Korea. After returning from military service, Mr. Melson managed lumber yards for the Lowrey Miller Lumber Co. and later owned and operated the Gallatin Lumber Yard until his retirement.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Marceline of the home; a daughter, Marsha Cox and her husband, Jim of Trenton; two grandchildren, Michelle Johnston of Hamilton and Seth Cox and his wife, Kendra of Trenton; and a great-grandson, Koleby McClintick.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial donations are suggested to either the First Christian Church or Wright Memorial Hospice.
