NCM Fair Is Aug. 2-6

“Countywide, Country Pride” is the theme for the 2011 North Central Missouri Fair, which gets under way on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and continues through Saturday, Aug. 6 at the NCM fairgrounds in Trenton.

In addition to the traditional livestock and grandstand activities, new events have been added to the line-up, including a concert by former Trenton resident Bransen Ireland. Ireland is scheduled to perform at the grandstand on the first night of the fair in an 8 p.m. concert. Admission is $10 for persons age 13-and-older and $5 for youth age 12-and-under.
The evening also includes the NCM Fair Parade at 5:30 p.m. and the Trenton High School FFA Alumni BBQ at 6 p.m. The coronation of the 2011 NCM Fair Queen will take place at 7 p.m. at the grandstand, prior to the concert.
Entries for the fair parade are being accepted by contacting Colleen Williams or Ashley Boren at 359-4040, ext. 3 before Friday, July 29.
Entries are to be in line by 5 p.m. for judging, with categories including saddle club with largest number of horses, best dressed saddle club in club colors, most unusual horse-drawn vehicle, best matched horses or ponies, best dress horse and rider, male and female, best restored motor vehicle, oldest motor car or truck driven in parade, best restored tractor driven in parade, oldest farm tractor, best clown, best business float, best non-business float, most unusual entry, oldest man and woman, couple married the longest and large family in the parade.
The parade will follow the traditional route from the NCM fairgrounds, down Harris Avenue and 17th Street to Main Street and Ninth Street before heading back to the fairgrounds.
The BBQ is a fundraiser for the FFA alumni. Tickets are $6.75 per person or for $12, persons can purchase the meal and a ticket to the Bransen Ireland concert.
The queen contest is being judged on Sunday, July 31, with the winner to be announced on Tuesday, Aug. 2. The winner will receive a two-year scholarship to North Central Missouri College as well as represent the local fair at the Missouri State Fair Queen Contest in August. One-year scholarships to NCMC will be given to the first, second and third runners-up. Contestants will be judged on interview, talent and evening gown. Rebecca Steinhoff is in charge of this event.
Other events scheduled on Tuesday include the dog show at 10 a.m.
Wednesday’s activities begin 8:30 a.m. with the pee wee swine show, followed by the regular swine show. Chicken and rabbits will also be judged on that day.
In the evening the grandstand will feature a truck and tractor pull at 7 o’clock. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for those five and under. The Iowa-Missouri Pullers are putting on the event.
On Thursday, the pee wee goat show kicks off events at 8:30 a.m. with the regular goat show to follow. The dairy show, including bucket calves, will be judged at 1 p.m.
In the grandstand will be “celebrity” donkey races at 7 p.m.
Friday’s events begin with the ladies lead sheep show at 8:30 a.m., followed by the pee wee and regular sheep shows. Grandstand entertainment will feature ATV and dirtbike motocross races, beginning at 7 p.m. (sign-up is at 4:30 p.m.). Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free for children five-and-under. All pit passes are $10.
A new feature of the fair will also take place on Friday, with the bluegrass band, I-35 Express, performing in the courtyard area at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for persons age 11-and-over and free for those 10-and-under.
On Saturday, the beef show kicks off the schedule at 8:30 a.m. and include bucket calves, beef breeding cattle and steers. The horse show will be at 9 a.m. at the North Central Missouri Saddle Club grounds.
At the grandstand will be a demolition derby. The entry fee is $40 per vehicle. Pit passes are $20 and there is a $30 cost per rider. Competition will take place in full size, compact and truck divisions.
There will also be senior and junior household and horticulture displays along with a fine arts show. Additional information is available at the website, www.ncmfair.com.
