More specifically, this effort will serve as the catalyst for constructing a welcome sign to the farm campus scheduled to open in the fall.
North Central Missouri College Foundation Director Steve Maxey said this project will not only allow alums and friends of the college the opportunity to contribute but to also provide for a lasting tribute to the college. A large brick sign will be erected at the entrance of the Barton Farm Campus, which is located southeast of Trenton, and will be constructed of brick similar to the brick used in the buildings on the new campus. Nostalgia will be major with the construction as college officials hope to build the sign of similar design as one located on the downtown campus of NCMC.
The Barton Campus sign will contain two large pillars at each side of the welcome sign and will be constructed of brick displaying the names of donors who have provided for the construction.
“It is hoped that a tremendous outpouring of support will be received and that walls extending from the pillars will be built, once again containing the names of individuals, families, businesses and foundations,” Maxey said. “We are confident the support will be received and we look forward to construction of the sign in the spring of 2012.”
The cost for a 4-inch x 8-inch clay brick is $100, which is tax deductible. Persons will have up to three lines with 20 characters on each line to record their names and special messages.
“The buy-a-brick campaign is the first of its kind for NCMC and after years of searching for the perfect project, the welcome sign to the Barton Campus just seemed right,” Maxey said.
Maxey said the campaign offers friends a great way to remember a birthday or holiday, provide for a memorial tribute or simply a congratulatory message to NCMC.
Bricks may be purchased at the NCMC College Foundation office, located in the Frey Administrative Center.
