Larry Dean Peters, a 69-year-old resident of Independence, died after a battle with cancer on Saturday, June 25, 2011.

Mr. Peters was born Feb. 26, 1942 in Sullivan County, the son of Veldon and Hazel Ogan Peters. He had many music accomplishments as he grew up. He graduated from Trenton High School, Trenton in 1960 and served in the Army from 1966-1969, which included one tour in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he entertained the troops with his band, the Holy Buckets. He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed creating and building with wood.
Mr. Peters was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church and also served as the church music director until his illness.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Rachel Peters; two sons, Paul Crosser (Shelly) and Tim Crosser (Marie); a daughter, Tonia Miller; two brothers, Charles Peters (Martha) and Ronald Peters (Linda); two aunts, Alta Peters and Eva Watson; and uncle, Stafford Hill; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
