NCMC Names Distinguished Alumni

An attorney, a banker, a bottler, a journalist and a physician have at least two things in common: They all attended Trenton Junior College and have been selected as members of the 2011 Class of Distinguished Alumni from Trenton Junior College/North Central Missouri College.

The list includes:
John R. Bain of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, is a 1969 graduate of TJC. He began his corporate career at the Carnation Co. in Kansas City and quickly progressed into high levels of management. He has worked for many years in the beverage industry, with stints at Pepsi Cola and Coca-Cola. He continues to work for the National Beverage Co., overseeing sales and distribution for Shasta products. He volunteers at the City of Hope in Pasadena and at the Mission Viejo Hospital.
Mary Jo Hoffman of Lee’s Summit is a 1942 graduate of TJC. She is retired after a long and storied career in journalism. The newspaper bug bit her at an early age when she created a one-page newsletter while in grade school in Trenton. Her career took her from reporter and city editor of the Trenton Republican-Times to assistant city editor of the Kansas City Star. She edits a monthly magazine for the John Knox Village retirement community.
Ed Holt of Trenton is a 1954 graduate of TJC. He is a retired banker and a former city councilman in his hometown of Trenton. He has been a tireless volunteer in numerous efforts to improve life in the community. Holt also has shared his vocal talents as a charter member of the Four Dimensions barbershop quartet. He also found time to teach business and sales classes at TJC/NCMC.
Dr. J.A. Keuhn of Trenton graduated at the top of his class in 1967 from TJC. He continued his education at Truman State University, then was accepted into medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He returned to his hometown, where he was in private family practice for almost 30 years. Dr. Keuhn is currently the emergency room physician at Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton. He and his wife, Chris, a nurse, have made numerous medical mission trips to Haiti.
Marvin Sharp of Trenton attended TJC in 1948 before continuing his education at the University of Missouri. He earned a law degree and was admitted to the Missouri Bar Association in 1959. He returned home and practiced law until his retirement. He was a founding member of the NCMC Foundation Board of Directors and served as its legal counsel from 1986 to 1989. He is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton.
Members of the Class of 2011 Distinguished Alumni were selected from a strong field of 23 nominees.
The honorees will be formally inducted at the NCMC Foundation’s annual gala on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Ketcham Community Center. All alumni and friends are invited to the annual gala. For more information about the gala, persons can call the Foundation Office at 660-359-3948, ext. 1415 or ext. 1403.
