Mrs. Williams was named to fill Long’s position by the CAA Board of Directors, which held a special meeting on Wednesday night in Trenton to address various concerns that have been expressed about the agency. Mrs. Williams said that Long had submitted his resignation on Wednesday night, at which time the board named her as the interim.
Mrs. Williams said she wants to assure the agency’s funders that the staff and board of directors is “100 percent in line with complying with current services and contracts” the agency provides. A conference call was held this morning for all CAA staff members to inform them of the changes.
The board meeting on Wednesday night lasted just under four hours, with the board voting to ask the Missouri Attorney General’s office to make a recommendation in regard to having an audit done of the agency. The motion was made by board member Randy Sims of Daviess County after two closed sessions were held by the board for personnel and legal matters.
The motion approved by the board did not contain information as to who was to make the contact or when that action might be taken. A call was made to the attorney general’s office to obtain further explanation, however, a phone call had not been returned as of press time. Mrs. Williams indicated that she has been spending time today visiting with the agency’s funding sources, but that she will be working with the board to work out the details in regard to any possible audit.
Several individuals attended the special meeting, which was called by board members Peggy Ward, Leon Hicks, Gerald McBrayer and “other concerned board members,” according to the agenda. Four items were listed on the agenda, including discussion with management and other issues, other issues concerning the financial health of the CAA, the current investigation by the attorney general’s office and any other questions or discussion that may be generated by open discussion.
Once the meeting was convened, it was announced that board member Hicks, who is from Harrison County, had requested a closed session for personnel, which was then approved by the board and those attending who were not members of the board were asked to leave.
During the initial session, board members requested several documents from CAA personnel, including copies of the agency’s personnel policy, the contract of Long and a telephone book. Some agency employees were also called into the meeting during that time.
Once the personnel portion of the meeting was over, the board came back into open session and then went back into closed session for legal matters, meeting for about 30 minutes before coming back out and re-opening the meeting. It was at that time the board made the audit recommendation request.
There are 27 members of the CAA board, with each of the nine counties represented having three members.
