Rotary Club Hears About Gooseberry Festival

Dr. McHargue talked about the 2011 Gooseberry Festival, which will be held today and Saturday in Trenton. This is the ninth year of the festival, which was originally organized by Dr. McHargue and his family, along with several volunteers who have continued to help with the event throughout the years. This year’s activities include a tractor pull, chili cookoff, a concert, a run/walk, a tennis tournament, an art show, cooking contests, tool sharpening, a horseshoe pitching contest, an antique and classic machinery show, a ranch rodeo, a barbecue and a music competition along with a fundraising auction to benefit the Thompson House restoration efforts. The Grundy County Museum will also be open on Saturday and Sunday, with gooseberry ice cream served on Sunday.
During the business meeting, members, information was presented concerning donations needed for the community fireworks display.
Next week’s program chairman is Joe Brinser, with the program being provided by exchange student Nicole Lin.
