Anyone who has seen a Trenton football game or track meet in the past couple of years knows that Dalton Preston has some serious speed. Truman State University has taken notice of that speed and Preston will be headed to Kirksville in the fall to join the school’s track program.

Preston signed a national letter of intent this week, becoming Head Coach Wes Croy’s first collegiate track athlete at Trenton and his second overall.
“(Dalton) has a lot of talent first off,” Croy said. “He is gifted as a runner and he has been a good athlete for us in multiple sports here at Trenton High School. I’m excited that he has the opportunity to move on and participate in athletics at the next level. His talent dictates that he has the ability to do that. I think it’s a great fit for him and hopefully he can bring success to Truman and they can allow him to develop into the type of athlete and person that he is capable of being over the next four to five years.”
Preston, who went to the Class 2 state track meet in the 4×100-meter relay, 4×400-meter relay and 100-meter dash this season, was recruited to Truman with the idea of having him run the 400 and 800-meter dash.
“Truman is a good school and it’s a good opportunity,” Preston said. “So far the coach said I’m looking at the 400 and the 800. Hopefully I can continue to be successful there and continue to get better.”
Preston finished his senior season with a team-high 223.25 points scored, earning him the THS high-point award. He is the son of Dallas Preston and Mary Tracy.
