Utility Director Chad Davis updated the board on efforts to use a vendor to develop a mapping system for Trenton Municipal Utilities. TMU has advertised requests for qualifications for the geographic information system which would locate all the primary electrical, water and sewer system infrastructure used by the utilities. Davis said 19 inquiries have been received and proposals are due by June 2 and it is hoped to have a special meeting the week of June 6 to approve a vendor which would then go to the city council for its approval on June 13.
The first phase of the work will include the field work to locate all parts of the system in order to be able to provide accurate maps to the utility.
Davis noted easement work for the water distribution improvements in the East 10th area continue and he felt TMU was getting close to finalizing the final three easements needed to begin the improvements. He also said discussions continue with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on renewing the wastewater permit which expired at the end of last year. TMU continues to operate on that permit until a new one is issued.
Davis brought the board’s attention to a letter in the board’s information packet from Wright Memorial Hospital CEO Karen Cole, thanking TMU and its employees for their assistance in the completion of the new Wright Memorial Hospital.
Board President Phil Hoffman said the fact that revenues in the electric department have improved bodes well for the future. The department has over $2 million in reserves, which Hoffman noted would be vitally needed if the community was ever to experience a calamity such as the tornado that devastated Joplin this week. In response to a question, Davis said the utility has not received any requests for assistance from that area and has not sent any personnel there.
Bills were approved to be paid at the meeting with board member Robert Day abstaining on the vote to pay a bill from Trenton Transit Mix.
The board held an executive session following the meeting for legal reasons with no announcement being made following the session.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28.
