Goodin Leads Area State Qualifiers

Athletes from Princeton, Newtown-Harris and Tri-County qualified for the state track meet at the Class 1, Sectional 3 Track Meet in Richmond on Saturday.
Princeton had four individuals and three relay teams qualify for state on the boys side and three individuals qualify on the girls side. Newtown qualified three total individuals and Tri-County had one individual qualifier.
In Albany, Gilman City was gunning for opportunities to make it to state at the Class 1, Sectional 4 meet. The Hawks and Lady Hawks each came away with one state qualifier.

Princeton
Blake Goodin backed up his four district gold medals with four sectional gold medals, running away with first-place finishes in all of his events yet again. Goodin won the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:45.9, the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:46.8 and the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.8. He also teamed with Matt Hydorn, Vince Jennings and Colton Nelson to win the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 8:55.6. Goodin will be looking to add to his five state titles at the MSHSAA Class 1 Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City this weekend.
Princeton also had individual qualifiers in Hydorn, who ran second to Goodin in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.9; Brycen Stark, third in the discus with a throw of 122-6; and Nick Roberts, third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.8.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Preston Berwanger, Brodie Cridlebaugh, Hydorn and Roberts qualified, placing fourth with a time of 1:41.7. The Tigers’ 4×400-meter team of Berwanger, Hydorn, Roberts and Nelson was the final Princeton qualifier, placing fourth with a time of 3:48.5.
For the Princeton girls it was Michelle Palmer leading the way, punching her ticket to state with a runner-up finish in the high jump. Palmer cleared 5-0 to place second. Emily Schwenneker advanced with a third-place showing in the discus, recording a throw of 89-1. Torrie Hagan also qualified, placing fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.3.
Newtown-Harris
Mercedes Foster and Tara Collings both pushed through to state in multiple events for the Lady Tigers and Japheth Busick did the same for the Tigers, giving Newtown-Harris three representatives for this weekend’s Class 1 state meet.
Foster picked up a gold medal, winning the shot put with a throw of 30-9. Foster also placed second in the discus, recording a throw of 93-1. Collings will join her fellow Lady Tiger in Jefferson City after placing third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.9 and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.3.
Japheth Busick qualified in the 100-meter dash, where he placed third with a time of 11.6, and the 400-meter dash, where he was fourth with a time of 55.1.
Tri-County
Tri-County escaped sectionals with one state qualifier in Paiten Hamilton. The Lady Mustang hurdler placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 17.5
Gilman City
Gilman City had one boy and one girl advance to state. Saige Johnson placed fourth in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.22 to advance and Brennon Carey gave the Hawks a qualifier, placing third in the discus with a throw of 128-11.
The MSHSAA Track And Field Championships will be held at Dwight T. Reed Stadium on the campus of Lincoln University in Jefferson City. Action begins on Friday with field events at 11 a.m.
