Trenton funeral director Donald H. Slater, an 86-year-old resident of Trenton, died on Thursday evening, May 5, 2011 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton with Rev. Barry Robinson and Rev. Eugene Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Trenton IOOF Cemetery.
There is no scheduled family visitation.
Grand River Lodge No. 52, IOOF will conduct lodge rites at the funeral home.
Mr. Slater was born on Jan. 29, 1925 in Trenton, the son of Ray Homer and Maude Margaret Ellis Slater. He graduated from Trenton High School in1942, graduated from Trenton Junior College in 1944 and graduated from California College Of Mortuary Science in Los Angles, CA in June 1946. He lived in Los Angeles while attending college and worked in Casa Grande, AZ before moving back to Trenton, where he started Slater Funeral Home on Dec. 15, 1951. He served as Grundy County Coroner from 1964-1980.
He was a member of Hodge Presbyterian Church where he was choir director as a youth, was a member for over 50 years of Grand River Lodge No. 52, IOOF and a life member of B.P.O.E. No. 801, all of Trenton; a member of Chillicothe Rebekah Lodge No. 43; and a member of the Missouri Funeral Directors Association.
On May 4, 1958, he was married to Donna N. Archibald at Trenton. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1987.
On Dec. 12, 1993 he was married to Donna Cooper Innis at Trenton.
His survivors include his wife, Donna Lou of the home; two sons, Dewayne Slater and his wife, Janet of Trenton and David Slater and his wife, Ilishia of Trenton; five grandchildren, Kayla Slater, Kiley Slater, Michael Slater, Phillip Slater and Matthew Slater, all of Trenton; and one great-grandson, Scott Slater-Maberry of Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are suggested to the Trenton IOOF Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
