Alumnus Dr. John L. Holcomb will be the Commencement speaker at North Central Missouri College in Trenton on Saturday, May 7. Nearly 400 candidates for graduation will receive diplomas and certificates at the ceremony which is set for 10 a.m. in the Ketcham Community Center on the NCMC campus.
Holcomb Will Be NCMC Graduation Speaker
Dr. Holcomb owns and operates an optometry practice in Trenton, where he joined his father upon his graduation from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Father and son worked together for more than 20 years before the elder Dr. Holcomb retired. A graduate of Trenton High School, Holcomb attended Trenton Junior College for one and one-half years, then transferred to Central Missouri State University of Warrensburg to fulfill special requirements prior to his entry into optometry school.
A familiar voice for Trenton High School Bulldog sports fans, Dr. Holcomb has served as the announcer at all home football games for the past twenty years. He also has served for many years as a volunteer clock operator and score keeper for both THS and NCMC. Dr. Holcomb has been very involved in his church, the Trenton Lions Club, Walden of Trenton, the American Field Service Exchange Program, the Riverside Country Club, and the Missouri Optometric and American Optometric Associations. He was a member of the THS Board of Education for 14 years, serving eight years as president, and has been a member of the NCMC Board of Trustees since 2006.
Dr. Holcomb and his wife Debbie are the parents of two children, Jay (also an optometrist) and Emily; and they have one grandchild.
