Leonard Ray Hashman, an 87-year-old Mercer resident, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Princeton with Pastor Jack Stark officiating. Burial will be in the Early Cemetery, south of Mercer, Missouri.
Open visitation and viewing will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the funeral home, where the family visitation will be from 7 to 8 o’clock on Friday evening.
Mr. Hashman was born on Oct. 13, 1923 in Anton, CO, the son of Clellman Chester and Ada Celestia Bloom Hashman. He moved with his family from Colorado to Mercer in 1935. He was a 1941 graduate of Mercer High School and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, receiving two Purple Heart medals for wounds received in the Philippines.
He was married on July 11, 1942 to Beatrice Mae “Bea” Jackson, who preceded him in death on April 3, 2004.
In 1956, he and his wife moved with their family from where the Twin Lakes are located now to Mercer in a new house across from the Mercer School. He worked as a rural mail carrier in the Mercer and Clio, Lineville and Allerton, IA, areas for 31 years, retiring on Oct. 13, 1978. For the past six years, he has made his home with his son, Bob and daughter-in-law Donna.
He was a member of the VFW in Princeton, the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477 of Mercer, and the Masonic Lodge in Lineville. He enjoyed gardening, playing pitch, fishing and watching his grandson and great-grandsons grow.
He is survived by two sons, Bob Hashman and his wife, Donna and Bill Hashman and his wife, Joyce, all of Mercer; four grandchildren, Bryan Hashman and his wife, Susan of Mercer, Tammy Miller and her husband, Barry of Mercer, Kimberly Wilson and her husband, Dwayne of Mercer, and Pamela Woollis and her husband, Jesse of Cambria, IA; three great-grandchildren, Wesley and Brett Hashman and Kloe Woollis; four nephews; two nieces; and by a special friend, Lucille Marley, of Trenton.
In addition to his wife, was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Hashman.
