The Trenton High School track and field teams traveled to Lawson on Monday for the annual Nick Sloop Invitational. Both Trenton teams ran well at the meet as the Lady Bulldogs tied for first with Odessa and the Bulldogs tied for second, also with Odessa.

Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls picked up six first-place finishes at the meet, with Chandler Wilson and Mackenzie Mack leading the way. Wilson tallied three gold medals, as did Mack.
Wilson won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.66, the triple jump with a mark of 33-0 and combined with Mack, Scotlin Hurley and Maddie Hooyman to take first in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 52.6.
In addition to teaming with Wilson to win the 4×100-meter relay, Mack also won gold teaming with Hurley, Hooyman and Magie Steinhoff to win the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:54. Mack’s third gold medal came on her own as she won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.0.
The lady Bulldogs also picked up a second gold medal in the field, coming from Rebekah Capeder, who won the high jump with a mark of 5-0.
Trenton also had five runner up finishes with Amber Fischbach contributing three second-place finishes. Fischbach was second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:54, second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35 and second in the 4×800-meter relay, teaming with Molly Boyle, Katey Norris and Megan Sole. The relay team finished with a time of 11:03.
Other runners-up included Mack, who was second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.9, and Hooyman, who was second in the high jump with a mark of 4-10.
Other placewinners for the Lady Bulldogs included Sole, third in the triple jump and fifth in the 800-meter run; Kendra Lickteig, third in the 3200-meter run; the 4×400-meter relay team of Norris, Hooyman, Katie Lenhart and Hurley, which placed third; Boyle, fifth in the 1600-meter run; Hurley, sixth in the 200-meter dash; Lindsey Derry, sixth in the discus; and Nicole Fairchild, sixth in the 3200-meter run.
“I was really pleased with the overall performance of our girls,” Lady Bulldogs’ Coach Chris Parks said. “I was especially proud of Nicole Fairchild placing sixth in the 3200-meter run. Her and Kendra Lickteig both had good performances in that event. The 4×400 placing third was big for us as well.”
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys came away with two gold medals at the meet. James Fairchild won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13 and the 4×400-meter relay team of Dalton Preston, Seth Acton, Clay Oneal and Sam Cool won with a time of 3:38.
Trenton’s other three relay teams came up just shy of victories, finishing runner-up. The 4×100-meter relay team of Preston, Acton, Keegan McGinness and Colby Larson placed second with a time of 45.12; the 4×200-meter relay team of Preston, Acton, McGinness and Oneal placed second with a time of 1:35.57; and the 4×800-meter relay team of Jacob Spillman, Cool, Acton and Fairchild placed second with a time of 8:58.08.
Other runner-up finishes for the Bulldogs included Preston, second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13, and Fairchild, second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:01.
Other placewinners for the Bulldogs included Larson, fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the long jump; Trevor Whitley, fourth in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash; James Deaver, fourth in the discus; Aric Helmandollar, fifth in the 110-meter hurdles; Cool, sixth in the 800-meter run; and Josh Jarrett, sixth in the 3200-meter run.
“The conditions weren’t optimal at all, but our kids still went out and performed well,” Bulldogs’ Head Coach Wes Croy said. “We had some (personal records) and I was just real pleased with how our kids competed. There was pretty good competition there too, so we are continuing to evolve and improve. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, we can get a couple of guys back and heal up a little bit and keep things moving in the direction we need to have a good finish to our season.”
The Trenton track teams will return to action today at the Cameron Invitational Track Meet, weather permitting. Action begins at 3 p.m.
