The North Central Missouri College Lady Pirates softball team had little trouble disposing of Missouri Valley’s junior varsity in a doubleheader moved to Trenton. The games were moved to Griffin Field in Trenton after the City of Marshall inadvertently flooded the softball field while flushing water. North Central made the most of the home field advantage, taking wins of 9-1 and 17-0.
Lady Pirates Blast Missouri Valley
Game one saw Stacy Hines throw a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five. Hines picked up the win as a result.
The Lady Pirates offense was hitting on all cylinders as well, racking up nine runs in the game. Hannah Hill had two hits, one a home run, three runs scored and two steals. Sara Stafford added a double, a home run and three RBIs.
As impressive as the Lady Pirates were on both sides of the ball in game one, they were even better in game two. Jessica Thompson one-upped Hines, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out four.
At the plate, North Central cut loose, racking up 17 runs. Morgan Wood had three hits, two doubles and three RBIs and Emily Anderson had two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Kelsey Hight had a multiple hit game with two hits as well.
“You question sometimes why you are playing a JV team,” Lady Pirates’ Head Coach Max Mothersbaugh said. “It gives you a chance to look at kids in some different positions, though, and we are still not set 100 percent on how we are going to look in the field come region time. You don’t want to go out and start experimenting at the region tournament. You like to be set going in. It also allows us to get everybody some playing time and I think you need a few games like that each year.”
With the sweep, NCMC moved to 17-8 on the season.
NCMC will see six games over the weekend as they play doubleheaders on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Pirates will travel to Hillsboro on Friday for a doubleheader at Jefferson College. On Saturday the Lady Pirates will face the Missouri Valley junior varsity again, this time in Marshall, a game moved from Trenton due to the Lady Pirates hosting Wednesday’s game. On Sunday, NCMC will be back at home on Griffin Field, hosting Three Rivers Community College. The first pitch for the Sunday home doubleheader is set for noon.
