City Clerk April Meighen said the budget, which goes into effect on April 1, anticipates revenues of $125,000 and expenditures of $275,000. The expenditures are higher than normal due to upgrades that will need to be done to the city’s wastewater system this year. Scott Adams of the Department of Natural Resources met with the council concerning the upgrades, recommending that the city hire an engineering firm to file the necessary papers with the state regarding the work that will need to be done.
Veolia has raised the rates it charges to the city for waste removal, however, the city will not be passing that cost onto their customers. Mrs. Meighen said the city will now be paying $14.31. per month, per person for the service with the customer’s cost remaining at $15. A representative from Rapid Removal was present at the meeting to discuss doing waste removal for the city and will be putting a proposal together to present to the council.
The spring cleanup was set for Thursday, April 21. Persons may purchase tags for disposal of appliances at city hall during regular business hours.
Residents are reminded to now remove covers from their water meters to allow them to be read by city personnel.
A special meeting was set for 5 p.m. on April 13 to administer the oath of office to the newly-elected mayor and city council members. The next regular meeting will be on Tuesday, May 3.
