NCMC got off to a solid start with a strong offensive attack in game one. The Lady Pirates belted three homers in the opening game and Stacy Hines did her part on the hill to seal the win. Hines allowed just five hits in the game, picking up the win.
At the plate, Hannah Hill collected three hits, two home runs, two RBIs, four runs scored and two steals. Lindsay Sumner had three hits as well, hitting one home run, driving in two runs and scoring two runs.
The second game didn’t turn out as well as the Lady Pirates dug themselves a hole with some costly errors. Maple Woods took advantage early and scored four runs in the first inning. North Central battled back and had a chance to win the game in the seventh inning, but came up just short, falling 6-4. Jessica Thompson was the losing pitcher for the Lady Pirates and Sara Stafford and Emily Anderson each had two hits in the game. Stafford added an RBI.
“I saw some good things,” Lady Pirates’ Head Coach Max Mothersbaugh said. “I thought we swung the bats really well. The three home runs we hit were right into the teeth of the wind and they just carried out. We had runners on base all the time and I have no complaints offensively. Our pitching was strong for the most part all day too. Where we still have work to do is on the defensive end. We really shot ourselves in the foot in the second game with costly errors.”
The split moves NCMC to 15-8 on the season. The Lady Pirates will be in action in Marshall today, taking on the Missouri Valley junior varsity. First pitch of a scheduled doubleheader will be thrown at 3 o’clock.
