Dorothy Mae Welch, a 92-year-old resident of Spickard died this morning (Wednesday, April 6, 2011) at North Kansas City Hospice in North Kansas City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Spickard United Methodist Church with Richard Key officiating. Burial will be in the Groff Cemetery, northwest of Spickard.
An open visitation will begin Friday morning, April 8, 2011 at the Slater Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mrs. Welch was born July 13, 1918 in Spickard, the daughter of George and Eva Hague Persell. She attended Half Rock and Spickard schools. She lived in Spickard most of her life. She was employed as a LPN by Wright Memorial Hospital at Trenton and North Kansas City Hospital before retiring.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid dancer, attending several local senior citizens’ dances.
She was a member of Spickard United Methodist Church, Spickard.
She was married at Trenton on March 10, 1935 to Leslie Carl Welch, who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1987.
She is survived by three daughters, Helen Ward of Kansas City, Judy Dreier and her husband, Bob of Clinton and Francey Whitwell and her husband, Jesse of Spickard; five sons, Bill Welch and his wife, Dolores of Quenemo, KS, Don Welch and his wife, Sharon of Kansas City, Eddie Welch and his wife, Sharon of Kansas City, Charles Welch and his wife, Tiny of Kansas City, and Jim Welch and his wife, Peggy of Liberty; a special friend, Orlo Pore of Rothville; 26 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth Persell and Nova Persell; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials are suggested to the Groff Cemetery and they may be left at the Slater Funeral Home.
