“It was a windy day,” Bulldogs’ Coach David Sager said. “The wind can be hard to play in, but it didn’t slow us down. Everyone on the team put in a good effort and that showed in the scores.”
Trenton’s top two players got the Bulldogs off to a great start. Austin Busch and Michael Witten, playing in the number one and two positions respectively, each scored wins of 8-0. Isaiah Swann won 8-2 in the number three match and Sam Muff picked up an 8-0 victory in the number four position. Karson Hill followed suit, winning 8-0 at number five and Nathanyl Bankson rounded out singles play with an 8-2 win at number six.
Doubles play had similar results as Trenton continued to dominate every aspect of the dual. Busch and Witten combined for an 8-2 win and Swann and Hill won 8-2 as well. Muff and Bankson wrapped up the sweep with an 8-1 win in the dual’s final varsity match.
The victory put the Bulldogs in the win column for the first time this season, evening their record at 1-1 on the season. Trenton will hope to carry the momentum of the win over to their next match, a road dual with Kirksville on Thursday.
“This was a great win to get us prepared for Kirksville on Thursday,” Sager said.
The junior varsity unit picked up a win as well, defeating Benton’s second unit 4-0.
Brandon Whittle and Elliott O’Neal each scored 8-0 wins in singles action and Tyler Maberry won his singles match, 6-1. The lone JV doubles match saw Trenton’s duo of Colin Ferguson and Jacob Marlay secure a 6-1 victory that gave Trenton’s JV the 4-0 win.
The Bulldogs’ dual in Kirksville will get started at 4 p.m. Thursday.
