Why Are You Running for This Position?
I served as vice president and president on our HOA (Home Owners Association) board when residing in Greeley. While serving on the HOA board, I worked with the city council and different city committees to improve our community. I proudly served my country and I was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1991. Being on the city council will provide me with an opportunity to give back to such a great community by the way of being a public servant. I plan to bring ideas and a different perspective to the board from the years of experience I have gained from residing in a larger community that will improve the quality of the community that we call home, for the better. I believe that everyone needs to be involved in their community in some aspect no matter how big or small the responsibility is.
What do you fell are the concerns facing the residents of Trenton that you would like to see addressed as related to the position for which you are a candidate and how would you deal with them if elected.
As being a resident of Trenton, I feel that we all face many of the same challenges. Challenges that come in the form of a high unemployment, community safety, and slow economic growth. As a city council member I would work with the other elected officials and seek out other ways and means to attract new businesses to create jobs. Jobs that will provide families with decent incomes and benefits. Companies that would add growth to the city tax revenue.
There has been a strong focus recently on economic development in the community, with a special emphasis on the DREAM Initiative and renovation of the downtown area. What are your feelings regarding the DREAM Initiative and do you feel the city is taking the right approach in regard to economic development efforts (why or why not)?
Dream Initiative would be taking the city of Trenton in the right direction. A city cannot and will not attract new businesses or families if the city does not appear to be inviting. Keeping and attracting new business in our community is a vital importance for community development and growth. But, as everyone that has ran or owns a business knows, there must be a return on investment with every project being considered. As a business manager, budgets must be maintain and risks must be weighed, but doing nothing is not an option.
Other Comments.
Being a father of two young children living in Trenton, I am glad that Trenton has such nice facilities to offer families such as the Ketcham Center, skating rink, the outdoor pool movie theater and nice parks. I would look for ways to continue to offer other family and sporting facilities. Soccer is a growing sport among the younger children in Trenton and the Green Hills area. I would like to see Trenton create its own year around recreational activities for the youth to attract more people into Trenton to support local businesses and local family needs. With rising fuel costs, it would be beneficial for our community to offer additional local programs.
