U.S. Congressman Sam Graves is seeking entries for the Congressional High School Art Competition.
Art Sought For D.C. Exhibit
This year’s contest will be held in partnership with Northwest Missouri State University and will offer more scholarships and recognition than years past.
The competition, “An Artistic Discovery”, is a yearly event held in each of the 435 Congressional Districts, including the Sixth District of Missouri. It highlights the importance of art education by recognizing outstanding talented young artists in each district.
A panel of judges will select the winning artwork and the winner will be notified by Graves. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship to Northwest Missouri State University and two roundtrip tickets to Washington D.C for the awards ceremony on June 22. The student’s winning piece will represent the Sixth Congressional District in the nationwide exhibit at the United States Capitol for one year. Additionally, the local runner-up and other top-placing entries will be displayed at the NWMSU Kansas City Center.
Any student at a public or private high school in the Sixth Congressional District, including alternative, home schooled or vocational students, is eligible to submit a work of art by April 27. Artwork must be two-dimensional (no sculptures) and can be in any medium, including painting, drawing, collage, print, mixed media, computer generated or photography, no larger than 28x28x4 inches, including the frame, and it must be ready to hang.
Anyone seeking more information about the contest is encouraged to contact Shawna Searcy at 816-792-3976, or [email protected].
