Former Trenton Lady Bulldogs’ ace Aubrey Utley had a good start to her weekend, picking up two wins to propel the Central Methodist Lady Eagles into the gold bracket at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, AL.
Utley threw one game on Friday and one game on Saturday, picking up complete game victories on both days.
Utley Propels CMU Into Gold Bracket In Alabama
On Friday, Utley faced Oklahoma Baptist and held the Lady Bison hitless over the first three innings. Utley would go on to finish with a seven-inning complete game that saw the Trenton alum strike out six, allowing just one run on five hits.
The following day, Utley threw another complete game, this time shutting out Cumberland University. She struck out four while keeping Cumberland off the scoreboard on seven hits. Utley’s two wins helped get the Lady Eagles into the Gold Bracket of the tournament with a 3-1 record. CMU would go 1-2 in bracket play. The Lady Eagles will remain in Gulf Shores for two games today and two tomorrow, before wrapping up their spring trip with a doubleheader in Pensacola, FL on Thursday.
This season, as the ace of the Lady Eagles staff, Utley has amassed a 6-1 record with a 1.24 ERA and a save in 50.2 innings pitched. Utley’s 50.2 innings pitched are 14 more than the next highest total on the team. Utley has struck out a team high 34 batters, while walking just eight. Opponents are hitting just .198 off Utley.
