Game one saw the Lady Pirates score a 10-6 victory. Heather Johnson was the winning pitcher, coming on in relief of Stacy Hines. Johnson threw two and one-third innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Offensively, the Lady Pirates were led by Sara Stafford, who was 3-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs. Former Lady Bulldog Crystal Pash went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Hannah Hill was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
North Central ran away with game two, 12-4, behind a grand slam home run from former THS third baseman Emily Anderson. Anderson finished the game going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Kelsey Hight was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Bailey Wingard and Jessica Thomsen were each 2-for-3.
Thomsen went the distance on the hill, picking up the win. The NCMC pitcher went seven innings, striking out five.
“We really hit the ball well,” Lady Pirates’ Head Coach Max Mothersbaugh said. “We had a lot of big hits, too. We were getting two-strike hits and two-out hits. Our pitching had some trouble locating the strike zone, but that is not unusual for this early point in the season.”
The Lady Pirates established a 2-0 record on the season and will be back in action this weekend, playing doubleheaders with Crowder Community College in Neosho on Saturday and Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff on Sunday. Action starts at noon both days.
