The Hawks put it on the Redmen early, running out to a 31-0 lead in the first quarter. Gilman only added to the lead in the second quarter, despite backing off with their defensive pressure, and took a 52-15 advantage into the locker room with them at halftime.
“We did a really good job defensively and that enabled us to get out in transition and score some easy buckets,” Hawks’ Head Coach Brent Burke said.
Gilman City cruised through the second half, picking up a 55-point win in the end.
The Hawks were led by Taylor Eoff, who scored 29 points to go with five assists and five steals. Nick Wilson finished with 16 points and four steals and Brennon Carey had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Gilman also got eight points, nine assists and six steals from Ross Oram and seven points and seven rebounds from Mason Ward.
With the win, the Hawks improved to 20-4 on the season, earning them their first 20-win season since the 2001-2002 season. Now the Hawks will face Mercer in the semifinals on Wednesday. Action tips off in Pattonsburg at 4 p.m.
