Richard Warren Herring, an 89-year-old resident of Linneus, died on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at the Life Care Center in Brookfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield. Rex Wood will officiate. Burial will be in the Botts Cemetery, north of Meadville, with military graveside rites by the Ernest A. McNish American Legion Post No. 182 of Brookfield.
General visitation is under way, with family visitation from 6 to 8 o’clock tonight (Monday, Feb. 28, 2011).
Mr. Herring was born on April 9, 1921 in Chula, the son of James Thomas and Gertie Caddell Herring. He was married on May 17, 1941 to Ruby M. VanDyke, who preceded him in death on Aug. 10, 2002.
Mr. Herring was a farmer all of his life and ran a sawmill and logging business. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a mechanic with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Meadville.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Dale Herring, Jerry Wayne Herring and his wife, Margaret, and Donald Gene Herring and his wife, Danelle, all of Linneus; six grandchildren, Jerry D. Herring and his wife, Teresa of Ft. Gibson, OK, Penny Anderson and her husband, Scott of Wheeling, Misty McKenzie and her husband, Eric of Brookfield, Timothy Herring and his wife, Jennifer of Linneus and Kurtis and Keith Herring, both Linneus; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister Virgina Fern Roberts of Chillicothe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darrell Lee Herring; and one sister, Mary Naomi Buckner.
