The Newtown-Harris basketball teams were in action Friday night, facing off with Meadville in a non-conference doubleheader at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Meadville got the best of both Newtown teams as the Lady Tigers fell, 39-25, and the Tigers lost, 53-39.

Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers found themselves in a defensive struggle with Meadville, finding points hard to come by. Newtown held Meadville to just 13 points in the second half, but couldn’t take advantage on the offensive end, falling by 14 points.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers was Tara Collings, who scored 14 points. Mercedes Foster scored nine points for the Lady Tigers.
With the loss, the Lady Tigers dropped to 12-9 on the season.
Tigers
The Newtown boys got themselves in some trouble, falling behind Meadville in the early stages of the game. The Tigers entered the final frame trailing 38-24, but began to rally back. Newtown went on a 7-0 run to open the quarter and had the lead cut to just seven points with 2:40 remaining before being forced to foul. Meadville was able to get their seven points back, pulling away for the 53-39 victory.
Japheth Busick was the only Tiger to reach double figures, scoring 13 points in the contest.
With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 16-6 on the season.
Both Newtown squads will be looking to get back into the win column on Tuesday when they travel to Ridgeway for an HDC Conference doubleheader. The girls game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow.
