Hill went into his match looking to hit the 300 takedown mark and did just that. In the first period, Hill scored four quick takedowns, quickly releasing his opponent, Principia’s Matt Ross, after each takedown. After the fifth takedown, Hill rolled Ross onto his back for the pin with 30 seconds still left in the first period. The win advances Hill to the second round against Trevor Glynn of Holden on Friday.
Oneal scored three takedowns in the first period of his match, allowing his opponent up after he was unable to score back points. Oneal started the second period down and quickly scored a reversal and two more takedowns, allowing Nick Fansher up each time. In the final period, Oneal scored two more takedowns as he pulled away for the 16-7 win. Oneal will next face Luke Hough of Adrian in the quarterfinals on Friday.
Spillman picked up a quick pin over Micah Beck of Lafayette County, pinning him with a cradle with 31 seconds left in the first period. Spillman will now face Mike Kissell of Whitfield in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Galvin took his match deep into the second period before being pinned by Caleb Roberts of Blair Oaks with one second left on the clock. Galvin will see wrestleback action later today.
Fair scored a quick takedown in his first-round match against Dylan Flint of Diamond. Fair spent the majority of the first period trying to roll Flint onto his back for a pin but, with little time remaining, Flint scored a reversal, putting Fair on his back in the process. Fair was unable to escape and was pinned with just 22 seconds to go in the period.
The loss dropped Fair into wrestlebacks. The senior faced Luke DeOrnellis of Fatima and lost by a 4-3 decision. Fair earned the first two points with a takedown, but DeOrnellis reversed to tie the match at 2-2. DeOrnellis reversed again after starting the second period down and Fair received a penalty point to cut the lead to 4-3 entering the final period. Fair started down, but could not escape as his hopes of a state medal came to an end.
