Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton JV set the tone in the first quarter, jumping out to a 12-4 lead. But South Harrison closed the gap with an 11-9 run in the second quarter. After a very defensive third quarter, Trenton slammed the door on any hopes South Harrison had of a rally, closing the game on a 15-6 run.
The Lady Bulldogs got the job done with a very balanced scoring attack that saw Maddie Hooyman put up a team-high nine points. Makaila Capeder and Madi Trump each added eight points and Megan Derry finished with seven points. Trenton also got four points from Chandler Wilson, two points each from Kate Lowrey and Bekah Wiggins and one point from Tosha Wilson.
The win kept the Lady Bulldogs junior varsity squad perfect as they moved to 12-0 on the season.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys took a 15-10 lead in the first quarter, but really began to put it on South Harrison with a 19-9 run in the second quarter. In the second half the Bulldogs had little trouble holding off South Harrison as they picked up the 17-point win.
“It was another well-played game by the entire team,” JV boys Coach Adam Clark said. “The bench was huge for us. We were able to sub and not have any let downs. Every player stepped up when it was their turn on the floor. I thought Freddie Pannell and Charlie Hoffman played very well off the bench. We have one game left and I hope we carry this momentum into it.”
Chase Tolson led the Bulldogs with 15 points, five rebounds, two steals and three assists. Mason Taylor added seven points and four rebounds and Pannell had six points and three assists. Trenton also got five points, four rebounds and two assists from Wilson Utley and three points each from Hoffman and Blake Schlarb. Hoffman also had two steals. Dalton Burkeybile, Chanse Houghton and Chris Kurtz all scored one point each to round out the Trenton total.
With the win, the JV boys guaranteed themselves at least a .500 record, regardless of the outcome in their final game, moving to 7-6 on the season.
The JV season will wrap up on Thursday, when they play host to Milan in Trenton. Action tips off with the girls game at 6 p.m. and the boys contest will follow.
