The loan was announced today by U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack, who said the actual loan will be made to Grundy Electric Cooperative, which in turn will be loaning the funds to NCMC for the Barton Farm effort. The loan is similar to the one NCMC received a few years ago to help fund construction of the Dr. Albert and Vera Cross Hall on the main college campus.
NCMC is currently in the construction phase of the Barton Farm Campus project, which includes building resource, plant science and animal science structures on the campus. Work is under way on the resource and plant science facilities, which are scheduled to be ready for use by students and staff at the start of the 2011-2012 school year. Initial plans for the animal science building have been reviewed by the school’s board of trustees, but no action has been taken as to approval of final plans or bidding out the work.
As part of the loan application, NCMC indicated the funds will also help in enlarging the ag program on the NCMC campus to 200 students while retaining an estimated 21 jobs and creating two new positions.
NCMC President Dr. Neil Nuttall was in Jefferson City today and was unavailable for comment on the funds.
