Playing volleyball at the next level wasn’t something Burkeybile set out to do when she first began playing volleyball, however, the opportunity has her excited.
“It’s really exciting,” Burkeybile said. “When I first started playing volleyball I didn’t really expect to go to the college level, but I’m excited that I get too. I’m looking forward to it a lot actually.”
Graceland head women’s volleyball coach Stew McDole pointed to Burkeybile’s physical play, athleticism and size as key factors that interested him in her for the program.
“The most obvious thing Micah brings to us is just size,” McDole said. “To be right honest with you she is a pretty physical player. You can’t coach somebody to be a good athlete and she is a good athlete. We hope to take those tools she has and refine them to give her the opportunity to excel as a college volleyball player.”
Burkeybile will be a front-line player at Graceland.
Burkeybile will graduate from THS in the spring and begin attending Graceland this fall. She is the daughter of Danny and Natalie Johnson of rural Trenton.
