The Mustangs ran out to an 18-8 lead in the first quarter. The third-seeded Mustangs appeared to be on their way to a rout over the sixth-seeded Cardinals, but Stewartsville wasn’t done yet. The Cardinals battled back in the second quarter, pulling to within three points by halftime. The Mustangs responded well, however, and came out of the locker room with an 11-3 third quarter run. In the fourth period, the two squads were fairly even, but the Mustangs tacked on four points to their lead to win by 15 points.
The Mustangs were led by Myles Dustman who tallied 26 points, 21 rebounds and four assists. Behind Dustman’s monster game, Tri-County got nine points, five assists and four steals from Trenton Troyer.
The win moved the Mustangs to 9-6 overall and places them in the semifinals, where they will face second-seeded North Harrison on Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Lady Mustangs, also first-round winners in the tournament, will play at 4:30 that same day, facing off with North Harrison as well.
