The Grundy R-5 Panthers picked up a sweep Tuesday night as they hosted and defeated Ridgeway in two games in Galt. The Lady Panthers scored a 50-45 victory and the Panthers won, 57-46.

The Grundy girls trailed for the majority of the first half, falling behind 13-11 in the first quarter and 21-18 at halftime. The tables turned in the Lady Panthers’ favor in the second half, however, as Grundy took off with a 17-8 third quarter run. The R-5 girls sealed the deal in the final quarter, maintaining their lead until the final buzzer.
Leading the way for the Lady Panthers were Bailey Brown and Mina Headrick. Both scored 14 points in the contest to help lead the Lady Panthers to the win. Shelbi Stimpson added 11 points and Marina Munday finished with eight points.
The win boosted the Lady Panthers’ record to 5-7 on the season and 3-0 in the HDC Conference.

The Grundy boys found themselves in a close game as well. After leading 14-13 after the first quarter, the Panthers saw Ridgeway bounce back to take a 23-22 halftime edge. The third quarter proved to be the difference maker as the Panthers outscored Ridgeway, 22-15. Grundy closed the game on a 13-8 run to seal their first HDC Conference win of the season.
The Panthers were led by Jordan Whitney, who recorded 30 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in the contest. Shawn Gott added 14 points and Mitch Alley finished with seven points. Grundy also got seven assists from Brody Hatcher and seven rebounds each from Destin Gann and Lucas Williams.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Both Grundy teams will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Linn County for a pair of non-conference match-ups. Action tips off with the girls game at 6 p.m. and the boys contest will follow.
