Army Staff Sgt. James Truitt has been awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Truitt, the son of Terry and Julie Jasinksi of Trenton and Richard Truitt of St. Joseph, sustained injuries on Oct. 20, 2010. According to his mother, the injuries included lacerations to his face and a concussion and he is recovering. A 2001 graduate of Milan High School, Staff Sgt. Truitt served in the reserves during high school before going on active duty. He has already completed one tour of duty in Iraq. He has been serving with the 101st Airborne in Afghanistan since January 2010 and will return to Fort Campbell, KY, where he resides with his wife, Melissa, later this month.
