The Newtown-Harris Tigers won what was perhaps the best game of NCMC’s Holiday Hoops this year as they defeated Hale in overtime, 46-42.
Newtown-Harris Gets OT Win
Newtown never had a monster quarter on the offensive end of the floor, but relied on their defense to keep the game in hand all night long. The Tigers trailed 11-8 after the opening quarter and the margin remained at three points throughout the second quarter as Hale took a 23-20 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Newtown used an 8-2 run in the third quarter to take a 28-25 lead into the final frame, but found themselves trying to battle back after a quick Hale run gave the Cardinals the advantage once again. in the final minute of regulation. Newtown got two points on a coast-to-coast lay-up by Kameron Cool and two more on a tough shot by Japheth Busick that tied the game and forced the overtime period.
Newtown struck quickly in the bonus four-minute period on a lay-up by Cool following the tip-off. Newtown rode that momentum to the finish, outscoring Hale 5-1 in overtime to secure the victory.
Japheth Busick led the Tigers with 17 points and Cool had 14. Adam Crawford added seven points and Micah Busick had six.
With the win the Tigers improved to 7-2 on the season. Newtown will face off with Tina-Avalon on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The Newtown girls will play Southwest that same day at 10:30 a.m.
