Trenton JV Teams Hammer Marceline
Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out in the first quarter with an impressive run and had a commanding halftime advantage. Marceline had no answers for Trenton’s Makaila Capeder, who found points easy to come by. The Trenton freshmen poured in 22 points to lead all scorers as Trenton pulled away for a 20-point win.
Behind Capeder’s dominating performance, Trenton got eight points each from Maddie Hooyman and Tosha Wilson.
The win moved the junior varsity girls to 3-0 on the year.
Bulldogs
The Trenton JV boys completed the sweep with a landslide victory over the Tigers. Trenton used an 18-5 first quarter run to grab an early lead and did nothing but add to the advantage the rest of the way. The lead grew to 34-9 by halftime and was 48-12 heading into the final frame. The Bulldogs coasted through the fourth for the 42-point win.
Chanse Houghton led the way for the JV boys, scoring 20 points to go with three assists and six steals. Blake Schlarb added 11 points and two steals and Wilson Utley recorded 10 points and six rebounds. Trenton also got four points and three steals from Dalton Burkeybile, three points and two assists from Aaron Delp, two points from Gannon Albrecht, two points and four rebounds from Freddie Pannell, two points from Christopher Kurtz, one point and three steals from Charlie Hoffman and five assists and four steals from Chase Tolson.
“All the boys played very well,” Trenton JV boys Coach Adam Clark said. “Our defense was aggressive for four quarters and Houghton and Tolson had a huge impact on the defensive side, accounting for 10 of our 22 steals. Chanse was also able to turn several of those steals into layups. Blake Schlarb found his outside shot with two three’s in the first half and Wilson was all over the floor with 10 points and six rebounds and held their big man to just four points.”
With the win, the JV Bulldogs evened their season record at 2-2.
The JV and freshmen girls teams will travel to Plattsburg tonight for action beginning at 5 o’clock with the freshmen girls game. A freshmen boys game between the schools will follow and the night will wrap up with the two schools facing off in a JV girls match-up.
The Trenton JV boys, meanwhile, are now off until after the Christmas break. They will return to the floor on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when they host Putnam County at home in Trenton. Action begins at 6 p.m. with the girls game and the boys contest will follow.
