Trenton tight end/defensive end Joe Mullany was named to the Missouri Football Coaches Association’s Class 2 All-State team as a third team selection. The award is the latest post-season honor to come in for Mullany, who was also named last month to the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association’s All-Northwest District team as a tight end. Mullany has been the Bulldogs’ leading receiver the past two seasons and caught 12 balls for 254 yards and four touchdowns this past year.
“I’m really proud of Joe for receiving this honor,” Trenton Head football Coach Wes Croy said. “He is an outstanding athlete and worked hard this past off-season to make himself a better football player. It’s paid off for him with the various post-season honors he has gotten. He is very deserving of this honor.”
With Mullany’s efforts, the Bulldogs were able to bounce back from a two-win season in 2009 and get back into the state playoffs for the third time in four seasons. Trenton finished 5-6 on the year.
Other area athletes who were named to the team included Princeton’s Vance Purdun, who was a first team selection as a running back at the Class 1 level, and Colton Hertzog, also of Princeton, who was a third team selection as an offensive lineman at the Class 1 level.
