Lady Pirates
The North Central women locked up in a physical game that was close early on. Eventually, however, The Lady Pirates’ interior game became too much for the Lady Vikings as NCMC pulled away in the second half.
Jordan Ewigman finished with a game-high 20 points and Ashly Zeih added 17. North Central also got nine points each from Lauren Rackers and Shelby Simon.
The win moved the Lady Pirates to 8-2 on the season.
Pirates
The North Central men jumped out to a 36-24 halftime lead and held their advantage throughout the second half en route to a 13-point win.
“It was good to win again,” Pirates’ Head Coach Steve Richman said. “We have had such a tough schedule here lately. Three of our last four losses came on the road against solid teams. We are disappointed with our record right now, but at the same time we understand that this is making us better if it doesn’t break us. Missouri Valley wasn’t your typical JV team either. They shoot well, they rebound well and they beat John Wood last week and they are a good team. This was a quality win for us.”
JaWan Davis led the Pirates with a game-high 20 points and Canaan Fairley added 19.
The NCMC men improved to 3-4 on the season with the win.
Next up for the Lady Pirates and Pirates is a home doubleheader with Fort Scott Community College tonight at the Ketcham Community Center. The women’s game will tip off at 5:30 and the men’s game will follow at 7:30.
