Trenton Gold
The Trenton Gold girls lost a tough game, falling by a single point. The Lady Bulldogs got a huge game from Joselyn Newton, who had 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals, but it was not enough as the Lady Midgets snubbed Trenton in the end by the slimmest of margins.
The Lady Bulldogs also got five points from Jenny Frey and one point and three rebounds from Karley McCollum.
The loss was the first of the season for the Trenton Gold girls, who fell to 3-1 on the season.
The Trenton Gold boys wound up on the positive side of a close ball game, winning 24-21 to give them their second win in a row.
The Bulldogs got off to a solid start, running off 11 points in the first quarter.
“The last two games we have had really strong first quarters,” Trenton Gold boys’ Coach Josh Lisle said. “Getting off to a good start is a key for us because it seems like we play better if we have success early. We are improving every time we step out on the court and that is encouraging to see.”
Kail McCarter led the way for Trenton, scoring 12 points. Gavin Albrecht added five points, Eli Leininger scored four points and Klark Critten finished with three.
The win moved the Trenton Gold boys to 2-2 on the season.
Trenton Black
The Trenton Black girls ran away with one against Putnam County, picking up a lopsided win on a night where every other game was determined by four points or less.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the game with a strong first quarter and led 10-5 behind six points from McKinley Hurley. Trenton led 12-7 midway through the second quarter, before closing the half on a 10-0 run to give them a 22-7 advantage at the break. Trenton continued to make good use of their pressure defense in the third quarter and ran off 13 more unanswered points to cap a 23-0 run. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs coasted to the finish line.
“This was our most balanced game so far,” Trenton Black girls Coach John Cowling said. “We were able to score in our half-court offense and our 28 steals as a team led to many scoring opportunities.”
Hurley finished with 16 points and 11 steals against her former school to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Daryian Otto added 13 points and three rebounds and Ally Ockenfels finished with four points and six steals. Trenton also got four points and three assists from Lexie Tolson, three points and eight rebounds from Ashley Allen and two points and two assists from Mallory Hooyman.
