Doris Jean Stratton, 81 of Liberty, died on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty.

She was born on May 6, 1929 in the Brimson community to Ralph and Marjorie Hamby. She attended Brimson and Trenton schools. In 1962 she moved to Trenton with her family. She worked at McCarty Truck Line and Gamble’s in Trenton. She was the Grundy County Magistrate Clerk before moving to the Grundy County Division of Family Services in Trenton. In 1979 she moved to Liberty and worked for the Jackson County Division of Family Services in Kansas City. She later moved to the Clay County Division of Family Services in Liberty, where she retired in 2001.
Doris Jean was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Liberty. She loved her church family and was involved in many church related activities. Before moving to Liberty she was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Trenton.
Doris Jean loved to spend time with her former co-workers that she had befriended over the years. She had great neighbors in her neighborhood that she thoroughly enjoyed.
She took joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially liked to host family holiday celebrations with wonderful meals. She cherished her family and she was cherished.
Doris Jean is survived by her two children Pamela Stratton and son-in-law, Gary Robertson of Kansas City and Stacey Stratton and daughter-in-law, Gini Stratton of Liberty; five grandchildren, Tamera Frazier, Monique Shearer and husband, Mike, John Stratton, Kate Stratton and Sara Stratton; and six great-grandchildren, Zachary Player, Jacob Player, Cody Shearer, Logan Shearer, Colby Frazier and Eli Frazier.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mackie Hamby; a stepmother, Mona Hamby; and grandson, Monty Robertson.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010 at the Second Baptist Church, 300 E. Kansas Ave. in Liberty. There will be visitation at 1:30 p.m. and funeral service at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 2 at the Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. Burial will follow at Willis Chapel Cemetery north of Brimson.

Doris Jean was a humble woman of great courage, strength and determination sustained by the love of her Lord and her commitment to God’s ministry and her beloved family. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
