The Grundy R-5 junior high basketball teams closed out their season on Monday night, playing host to Laredo in Galt. The Lady Panthers scored a 22-17 win and the Grundy boys won 46-12.
Grundy R-5 Takes Two From Laredo in Galt
Girls
The girls game saw Laredo jump out to a 5-3 lead and extend their advantage to 11-7 by halftime. The Lady Panthers battled back, however, going on an 8-4 fourth quarter run and closing the contest with an 8-2 run in the final frame.
Kylie Littleton led the Lady Panthers with 13 points and McKenna Owens added four points. For Laredo, it was Melody Ireland showing the way with 10 points.
The win gives the Lady Panthers a final record of 8-7 for the season.
Boys
The boys game wasn’t as close as Grundy ran out to a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 25-7 by halftime. In the second half, the Panthers continued to pull away on their way to a 46-12 win.
Mason Radcliff scored 12 points to lead the Panthers and Alex Webb added nine points. Winston Mackey added eight points and Mason Alley finished with six points, seven rebounds and six steals. The Panthers also got five points from Mathew McLain, eight rebounds from Chris Bummer and four assists and five steals from John Prodos.
The win gave the Panthers a final mark of 13-0 for the season.
“The boys had a great season,” Panthers’ Head Coach Les Jackson said. “I’m proud of their hard work and unselfish play.”
