The Trenton Black middle school basketball teams were in tournament action on Tuesday night at Princeton, playing the host school in the first round. The Lady Bulldogs were able to take home a 30-12 win but the Bulldogs lost, 46-33.

Lady Bulldogs
The Trenton girls used some successful pressure defense to jump out to a 12-2 lead. The Lady Bulldogs were able to extend their lead in the second quarter, taking an 18-6 lead into halftime. The lead never got below 10 points in the second half and Trenton was able to hold the Lady Tigers scoreless in the fourth quarter to finish out the win.
McKinley Hurley led the way with 14 points, nine steals and three assists and Lexie Tolson followed with eight points and three steals. Mallory Hooyman had two points and two steals, Payton Guile had two points and four rebounds and Ashley Allen and Rachelle Parks had two points each.
The win in the first round of the four-team tournament moves the Lady Bulldogs to 3-1 on the season and advances them to the championship game, which will be played on Thursday night. The Lady Bulldogs will face Gallatin in the title game at 6:15.
Bulldogs
The Trenton boys were handed their first loss of the season as Princeton took a victory over the Bulldogs. Princeton closed the first quarter with a 14-2 run to grab a 21-6 lead. The Tigers’ lead would only grow as the margin widened to 38-15 by halftime. The Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to 11 in the second half, but couldn’t get any closer as Princeton took the win.
The Bulldogs found it difficult to slow Princeton’s leading scorer, Brant Faulkner, who racked up 36 points.
Cree Mullenix led the way for Trenton with 12 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists. Colton Neff added 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals and Cade Mullenix finished with nine points, four rebounds, four steals and an assist.
Trenton also got two points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists from Bailey Owen; one rebound and two steals from Aaron Anderson; one rebound and one steal from Tanner Hudson; two rebounds and one steal from Alex Davis and one rebound from Jacob Hall.
Trenton, now 3-1 on the season, will play Gallatin on Thursday in the boys’ third-place game, which tips off at 5 p.m.
