Gary Duane Mitts, a 56-year-old resident of Deer Island OR, died on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at the Deer Island Community Church in Deer Island.
Mr. Mitts was born July 16, 1954 in Trenton, the son of Duane Charles and Rosereah Ellis Mitts.The family moved to Klamath Falls, OR when he was in the first grade and he graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1973. When he was 23, he moved to the St. Helen’s area.
He was married to Kelly Jeannette Olson on April 27, 1979. She survives of the home.
He was a journeyman meat cutter for several local grocery stores and a member of UFCW International Grocery Workers United 555. He was a member of the Deer Island Community Church for the last seven years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting deer, fishing and gardening as well.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Randy Mitts and his wife, Linda of St. Helen’s and Lindsey Smith and her husband, Ian of Deer Island; grandchildren, Cody, Chelsea, Alydia and Tyler; his father; Duane Mitts; and a sister, Carol Ruiz of Trenton.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Doyle.
