Local Residents Honored At MCCA Convention

Dr. Albert D. Cross and his late wife Vera, ServeLink Home Care, and Marian Goodin, all of Trenton, and NCMC student Johnna Garrett from Gower all received awards at the 46th Annual Convention of the Missouri Community College Association held November 3-5 in St. Louis.

The Missouri Community College Association (MCCA), the only Missouri professional organization that exclusively serves the public community college system, serves to promote professional service and growth, works toward articulation with other levels of education, and identifies the needs and problems of Missouri’s public community colleges.
Dr. Albert D. Cross and his late wife Vera were recognized with an Award of Distinction as a result of their active role in the construction of the new Cross Hall on the NCMC campus. Dr. Cross served as campaign co-chair and Mrs. Cross served as co-chair of the leadership awareness committee; they also contributed a substantial sum of money toward construction costs of the project. Dr. Cross was a long-time member of the NCMC Foundation’s Board of Directors and is now a member of the NCMC Board of Trustees.
Jeff Crowley, CEO of ServeLink Home Care, Inc., of Trenton received a Distinguished Business/Industry Award. ServeLink has a strong supporter of NCMC, providing both student scholarships and funds for capital projects. Also, ServeLink encourages its employees to take advantage of training opportunities offered by NCMC and financially supports them in doing so. Mr. Crowley is currently serving as president of the NCMC Foundation’s Board of Directors and has been a member of the Board since 2003.
Marian Goodin received a Senior Faculty Service Award. Ms. Goodin, who has been a instructor at NCMC for twenty years, is an alumnus of NCMC. She has served in many leadership roles over the years and has been an integral member of numerous statewide articulation projects and accreditation processes. She is an enthusiastic and tireless supporter of NCMC students.
Johnna Garrett, a student from Gower, Missouri, was NCMC’s Student Leadership Award winner. Ms. Garrett currently is serving as State President of the Missouri Post-Secondary Agriculture Organization. She is also Vice-President of the NCMC Student Senate, a Resident Assistant, an NCMC Mascot, and is on the President’s Honor Roll. She plans to transfer to the University of Missouri-Columbia to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
Steve Maxey, NCMC Development Director, served as chairman of the 2010 MCCA Convention Planning Committee. Vicki Weaver, NCMC Public Relations Director, is a member of the MCCA Board of Directors.
