Several businesses and organizations have already agreed to participate in the event, which will include live window displays, musical entertainment, puppet shows, carriage and tractor rides, refreshments and, of course, a visit from Santa. The Grundy County Museum will be open with several holiday-related display and there will be a live nativity scene.
According to Trenton Downtown Improvement Director Debbie Carman, nearly all of the businesses in the downtown area have agreed to participate and will either have their own display in windows or are allowing organizations and other businesses in their community to use their windows for live displays. The area included for the Christmas celebration includes Main Street, from Ninth to Crowder Road as well as Mable Street, from the museum to Crowder Road, including through the college campus. The Trenton Masonic Lodge is planning a soup supper that evening and the Nutty Grill also plans to be open for dining that evening.
The evening will kick off at 5 p.m. with the official lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree in Sesquicentennial Park as well as musical entertainment. Santa and his helpers will arrive by wagon and will be in the park gazebo to visit with children and pass out goodies. Taci McGinness will be available to take photos of children with Santa. Parents can also bring their own cameras if they choose.
Displays will be available for public viewing until 8 p.m. While several windows have already been designated for displays, businesses and organizations interested in having one are asked to contact Ms. Carman at 339-7606 as soon as possible.
“While this event is being held in the downtown area, we would like all the businesses in town to participate,” Ms. Carman said. “It is a community Christmas celebration and we would encourage all businesses to consider having a display and be a part of this fun celebration.”
There will also be singers located throughout the downtown area and while some singers have already been secured, additional singers are needed as well as instrumentalist who would like to perform. Interested persons can contact Ms. Carman at the above number.
The event is being coordinated by the Trenton Downtown Improvement Association, the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, the city of Trenton and a committee comprised of chamber and TDIA members.
