Lady Pirates
The North Central women wasted little time jumping on Central Methodist and quickly ran out to a sizable lead. By halftime, the Lady Pirates had increased their lead to 46-17. In the second half, the Lady Pirates cruised to the finish, taking the game 87-58.
The post players for the Lady Pirates were the ones leading the way. Jordan Ewigman had her second-straight 20-plus point game, finishing with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Carissa Conger added 17 points and Ashly Zeih scored 10 points.
“The post game was on last night,” Lady Pirates’ Head Coach Jenni Croy said. “They really finished well around the basket. We talked about that after our first game, utilizing the post game more and we took advantage of that.”
The win boosted the Lady Pirates to 2-0 on the season.
Pirates
The Pirates were playing in their first game of the season and put on a show, blasting the Hannibal JV. The Pirates ran the floor, creating a fast-paced game that the Trojans couldn’t hang with. By halftime, the Pirates led 59-33 and at game’s end the margin had nearly doubled with the Pirates winning 112-66.
All-American JaWan Davis led the way for the Pirates, scoring 22 points. Josh Stockman added 20 and Raymon Jones finished with 16. The Pirates also got 14 points from Brandon Jones and Dondre Craig chipped in with 12.
“I thought this was a good opening game for us,” Pirates’ Head Coach Steve Richman said. “I think it exposed the fact that we need to get a little more control on the court for when we face teams that are going to bite back, but overall our energy level was good. We just need to get a little bit better with each game. The talent is there if they stay together and play together.”
With the win the Pirates established a 1-0 record on the season.
Both the Lady Pirates and Pirates will be back in action on Saturday as they play host to Southwestern Community College at the Ketcham Community Center in Trenton. Women’s action tips off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will follow at 7:30 p.m.
