Bent on doing a good deed, Opal tries to get a husband for her friend, Rosie, and answers a lonely hearts ad placed by “Mister Handsome.” Mr. Handsome is not exactly the ideal husband that he advertised himself to be. As expected, complications ensue when Mr. Handsome’s daughter and son-in-law show up to take him home and he doesn’t want to go.
The role of Mr. Handsome is played by well-known TAG actor Tom Powell, a Title I reading teacher at Rissler Elementary School in Trenton. Deanna Powell returns to the TAG stage as Rosie, Opal’s best friend. Deanna is the director of obstetrics at Wright Memorial Hospital.
The roles of the daughter and son-in-law are performed by Rachel and Eric Lorenz, both frequent actors with TAG. Rachel is the K-12 music teacher in the Grundy R-5 School District and Eric is a lieutenant with the Trenton Fire Department. Opal, who often shares her thoughts with the audience, is played by Susan Provance. A retired teacher, she is also serving as director of the play.
The Grundy County Friends of the Arts is sponsoring the play, which will be held Nov. 19, 20 and 21 in the Hoover Theater, located in the Grundy County-Jewett Norris Library. All seats are reserved and tickets can be purchased at Howard’s Department Store in downtown Trenton. Season ticketholders and NCMC students are admitted free, while individual tickets are $8. Everyone must have a ticket to reserve a seat. Tickets will go on sale Friday, Nov. 5.
