Under the terms of the contract, the Grundy County Health Department will serve 372 persons eligible for WIC every month.
WIC is a nutrition education program that offers supplemental food, such as infant formula, milk, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, and fruit juice, for pregnant women and families with children under 5. Now fruits and vegetables have been added to the program.
Income guidelines are generous; for example, a family of four can earn up to $40,793 annually and qualify. Pregnant women are counted as two family members. Income guidelines are based on 185 percent of poverty level.
